Trainerize is the app your new client has probably already used with a previous coach. In a category where onboarding friction quietly kills retention, that familiarity is worth more than most feature comparisons admit.
Prices and plan contents below were checked on Trainerize’s own pricing page on 3 August 2026.
What You Get, and What It Costs
Free — 1 client. A permanent tier, not a countdown. Includes the iOS and Android client app, workout programs and delivery, basic in-app messaging, and habit and lifestyle coaching. You can run a complete coaching relationship on it.
Grow — $9/mo, 2 clients. Adds the AI workout builder, custom client programs, and client meal and macro tools.
Pro — from $23/mo, 5 clients. Sold in seat tiers: 5, 15, 30, 50, 75, 100, 200. Adds custom exercise videos, custom welcome emails, consultation forms, advanced messaging, and leaderboard and threshold challenges.
Studio Plus — custom. For established businesses and teams with physical locations.
The free tier deserves emphasis because it is unusual. Most “free” fitness software is a two-week trial with a card on file. Trainerize lets you coach one real, paying client indefinitely at zero cost — which means you can test whether online delivery suits your business before it costs you anything.
The Add-Ons Are the Asterisk
The plan price is not the whole price. Trainerize sells several things separately that you might reasonably assume are included:
- Advanced nutrition coaching — an add-on
- Business video coaching — an add-on
- Stripe integrated payments — an add-on
- Pro-level custom branded app — an add-on
None of these are unreasonable individually, but a coach who budgets $23/mo for five clients and then needs nutrition plus payments is not spending $23/mo. Price the configuration you will actually use, not the headline tier.
Where It Is Genuinely Best in Class
The client app. This is the strongest argument for Trainerize and it is not close. Workout logging is fast, form check videos work properly, habit streaks drive the daily-open behaviour you want, and messaging sits in the same place. Clients do not need a tutorial.
Brand recognition. A client who has used Trainerize before onboards in five minutes. Multiply that across a roster and it is real time saved.
Price at the bottom of the ladder. $9/mo for two clients is the cheapest paid tier in the category. Nothing else comes close at that size except Everfit’s free tier.
Custom branding when you grow. The branded app puts your business name in front of clients instead of the vendor’s, which matters if you are building something you want to sell or franchise later.
Where It Falls Down
It is not a storefront. No sales page builder, no checkout optimisation, no order bumps, no abandoned cart recovery, no affiliate program. Stripe integration bills your clients; it does not sell to strangers.
No course infrastructure. No certificates, no quizzes, no custom domain. If you want to run a certification or a structured curriculum with assessments, this is the wrong category of product entirely — see the LMS comparison.
Per-seat pricing has a hard ceiling. Every client on your roster costs money every month. That is fine while they pay you monthly. It stops being fine the moment you sell a one-time program: 200 buyers become 200 seats you pay for indefinitely, for revenue you collected once. The coaching app vs LMS breakdown works through the numbers.
Who Should Use It
Use Trainerize if you coach a named roster — 1:1, small group, or hybrid — and you want the delivery to feel like a real fitness app rather than a shared folder. Start on the free tier with one client, confirm the workflow fits, then pay $9 when the second one signs.
Skip it if most of your revenue comes from selling a fixed program to people you never speak to. You will pay per seat for customers who bought once, and you will still have no sales page. That business needs an LMS.
Consider Everfit instead if you have three to five clients right now. Everfit is free up to five, where Trainerize is free up to one — and at that specific roster size Everfit costs you nothing while Trainerize costs $23/mo. Our Everfit review covers the trade-offs.
Verdict
8.9/10. The best client experience in personal training software, at the lowest paid entry price in the category, with a free tier that is genuinely free. The add-on pricing is the honest criticism — budget for what you will actually switch on — and the per-seat model means this is delivery software, not a way to sell programs at volume. Within those limits, it is the default choice for good reason.
